Fanfare for the Third Planet

More aggressive percussion playing. More from snare & marimba, especially at Measure 47!
Dynamics issues:
Measure 19 - less low brass/ww
Measure 24 - Clar1, Left hand C to Right pinky Eb.
Measure 27 Flt, Obe, Clar 1&2, Alto Sax note accuracy! Careful!
Measure 80 !! Don’t add that “extra note” in measure 81...
Measure 89 TIMPANI! 20 bux!! fortissimo!! :)

When The Stars Began To Fall

Measure 38 - 16ths in Clar 3, BsCl, Bssn, Saxes / sextuplet 16ths in Flt, Oboe, Clarinet 1 & 2
Entrance issues following fermatas:
Measure36 - Alto sax solo pickups, THEN low brass entrance.
Measure44 Flt Clar1, ASax1 Tpt 1 pickups, THEN everyone else on Beat 1 of m.45
work on the molto rit. at end - keeping together - bring out timpani on last measure

Tuscola Mountain Celebration

Measure 1 (More timpani!!) :)
measure 8 (flt, oboe, clar, alto sax, f.horn) note accuracy
measure 17 - MORE f.horn and let’s add alto sax on those cues - if you weren’t playing before.
Measure 28 - ensemble issues. Listen - maintain pulse. Tpts are tending to rush just a bit on those off beat eighth notes.
Measure 37 MORE f.horn and tenor sax. Has to “balance” what the trumpets do in Measure 36.

Measure 41 (same as 37)
Measure 46-50, - more horn please! Work it out - Let this part soar!
57 - ensemble issues. Need to make sure we get off to a good start each time. More accent from the bass clarinet on each of those whole notes, and good accent on the off-beat bassoon entrance! Establish that new tempo!

m.88- Key sign issues - note accuracy issues. Careful!
m.93 - flutes, did you you circle the rest in masure 93? We kept entering early there.... careful.
m.96 - balance issues. Less Woodwind all the way up to m.112

Measure115-118... more f.horn and alto saxophone!
Measure 122 - bell tree! Gotta have it!
m.128 half notes in low brass and woodwind, we’re going to play it more like a dotted quarter. I want a bit more “separation” with the trumpet soloist on beat one.
M.131 to end; make sure you’ve labeled your part #s 1-6 for dictated entrance.
#1 - Clar3,ASax2, FHn1
#2 - Clar2, ASax1
#3 - Clar1 on Bnatural
#4 - Clar1 on Csharp
#5 - Flt on Enatural
#6 - Flt/Bells on Gsharp.
Mark Tree in Measure 134 - gotta have it!

Pirates of the Caribbean

Measure 1 - 24; Real confidence in melody from Bassoon/Baritone
Tuba/Tbns - same with bass line & harmony

Rest of band M.1-24 , count carefully. Entrance at 24 was always a bit timid.
m.53 - nice job on that trumpet solo!! Play it out. forget about the “mf”. Nice rich tone!

tempo issues starting at Rit. in measure 71-73. Need better transition into “The Kraken”.
Same at m.90. Better Rit. into new tempo at 91.

Most of our work on Pirates is from 103 on......

M.105 - Alto Solo can be a bit louder....

m.113 - 116. Horns, Tbns, Btn yor chance to shine. Work these out slowly.

m.115 -128, Tpts & Flutes/Oboes/Btns

m.128 Clarinet, Tenor Sax & Alto Sax, Flute and Oboe Hard work here! Careful of half steps versus whole steps in this difficult run.

M.130, Tpt/Tbn background harmonies - let’s clean up these rhythms a bit.

M.134 Low Brass/Woodwind - It’s all yours! rhythmic accuracy, and agressive play here.
m.134- Woodwinds (flt, oboe, clar) quite a bit less. We have to hear the low brass.

m.142 LowBr/Ww, we’re breaking the tie between the 3rd and 4th note. (cross it off)

m.143 rhythm- quicker release from first note.
m.144 Again, we’re going to break the tie between 3rd and 4th note. (don’t think we got to that during the rehearsal on 2/12)

ONE CHANGE:
M.149: Flute Oboe, cross out the LAST TWO NOTES of m.149. We will NOT play these pickups. This will give us a chance to breath, and play with confidence at m.150 where you have the melody.

M.151: alto sax note accuracy. Needs work.

mp3 files of problem spots. Listen, then work slowly at first. Gradually increase your speed.

Pirates:

Pirates Intro (tuba, btn, bssn, tbn.), as is...

Pirates Intro2 (w/chords in background) Trombone 2 players: Listen to the chords, make your stacatto note match the pitches you hear in the chord.

Measure 128 Slow (clar,sax,flute,oboe) - M.128 (fast)
