Thank You for attending my presentation at NYSSMA's Winter Conference on December 2.

I thank you for putting up with my very sub-par presentation. I was not feeling well, and not "clicking" on all cylinders - add to that the slow wireless, and it made for a less than stellar show. I hope that you were able to take at least an idea or two that you might find useful in your particular program.

My heartfelt thanks to Paul Magin, Jeff Welch, and the Gates Chili High School French Horn Trio that took part in our "skype" session! Even though the sound quality of our skype connection was lacking - I hope you might consider skype to do a "virtual field trip". When using an ethernet connection, you will find the picture and sound quality much better.

Thanks also to Fred Weingarten for his invitation to present.

If you're interested, I'm going to add links to three things to this page sometime in December:

1) How to use Finale (or another music writing software tool) to open and change a midi file that you download from the internet. I sped through that section of my presentation (the oboes playing Mozart..) Check back, and I'll show you the specifics.

2) How to turn some of the files on my website into Smartmusic files! The one thing that Smartmusic is lacking (sometimes) is the lower level NYSSMA solos. I'll show you how to download a file from my solo pages... open it in finale, and turn it into your very own Smartmusic file.

3) The Amazing Slow Downer software. I skipped over this entirely due to the time - (trying to get through everything). Again, I'll post a new link showing you how I use this. It's a great (free) piece of software that I use a LOT! You may find it useful too!

Recording:

Audacity (free)

Great for quick recordings. Can also use it to multi-track. (Example of trumpet trio, one part on each track)

Digital Audio Workstations

For higher quality recordings. Need an audio input for one or more microphones. USB or Firewire. Also need software to edit these files.
